Much like its ’03 Exquisite basketball brand, Upper Deck’s The Cup product uses hard-signed autograph, short print runs, game-used materials, and a fantastic rookie/star’s checklist to its advantage. This inaugural issue pushed the limits of what premium modern cards could be and is one of the most appealing sets in existence as it ushered in iconic figures like Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin. Offered in our January Premier Auction is an ultra-rare parallel to its base issue, limited to just 87 copies manufactured is this Gold Rainbow RPA, encased within a PSA 6 holder. Just like its base counterpart, the card presents a fabulous head shot of the active legend, pairing a hard-signed autograph and a game-used jersey relic just below. The signature has been struck in blue ink on the front surface and has been assessed by PSA/DNA as ‘10’ gem mint. The jersey relic used is an attractive 2-color example, showing multiple breaks throughout. Very common corner wear to the corners and delicate card stock prevents a higher assessment. Since being dubbed 'The Next One' after being selected #1 overall in the 2005 NHL Draft, Crosby went on to become the youngest player in history to win a scoring title and an MVP award. In fact, the youngest recipient prior to this was The Great One, Wayne Gretzky. It is not farfetched to say that Crosby is on the path to becoming a Hockey immortal.
